Alexander McQueen at the Met

Next month, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will feature Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty; an exhibit paying homage to the late great fashion designer’s work, from his post graduate collection in 1992 to his final collection that appeared on the runway after his death in February 2010. Close to 100 of McQueen’s greatest works of art will be on view, including; his bumster trouser, kimono jacket, and the Origami frock coat, among other iconic pieces. The exhibit will explore McQueen as an artist, with the backdrop being the medium he used, which happened to be clothing. It will look in depth at historical fashion elements and the way he wove them into his modern collections as well as the art of his runway presentations. The exhibit will be organized into themes; The Savage Mind, Romantic Gothic, Romantic Nationalism, Romantic Exoticism, Romantic Primitivism, and Cabinet of Curiosities. The Metropolitan Museum of Art still resides at 1000 Fifth Avenue NYC and the exhibition can be found in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Exhibition Hall on the 2nd floor from May 4th through the end of July.

More photos of the exhibit and a video montage of of some of his greatest hits after the jump.
