LG Fashion Week Toronto: Day 1 with Holt Renfrew & IZMA

Despite yesterday’s Twitter backlash surrounding Holt Renfrew’s decision to let their doorman of 21 years, Tom Hargitai, go the fashion glitterati put their feelings toward the beloved Tom aside to catch the retailer’s opening night show for LG Fashion Week that paid homage to a medley of 11 Canadian designers and brands.  Following Holt’s energy-infused show, IZMA (aka Izzy Camilleri and Adrian Mainella) presented their fur-heavy, Studio 54-inspired Fall/Winter 2011 collection which led us to believe that the 70′s are definitely sticking around for the long haul!

1. Canadians can’t live without their fur (or Canada Goose).  IZMA did fur disco style with a knee-length lapin (i.e. rabbit) coat, a coyote shawl collar coat in espresso and black fox stole intervown with silver chains.  At Holt Renfrew’s show designer Todd Lynn showed off his creamy hip-length fox fur jacket (we were obsessed) while Canada Goose went the warm and fuzzy route with their bright pink hooded bomber jacket trimmed in fur of course!

2. There is more than one way to wear a blazer.  The Smythe girls showed off their stunning collection of herringbone and plaid riding/hunting blazers for fall accessorized in the vein of D&G F/W 2010 (think furry boots and ski goggles) which we thought was a clever way to show the versatility of a blazer.

3. If the five outfits that Pink Tartan showed on the Holt Renfrew runway were a sign of what’s to come, expect to see some “ostriche” feathers at Pink Tartan tonight!

4. Biana Jagger is the unofficial muse of 2011.  Look no further than IZMA’s silk velvet burnout jumpsuit or Jeremy Laing’s deep velvet lounge pant for proof.

5. Canadian fashion rocks! After several seasons covering Toronto Fashion Week, it’s safe to say that our personal excitement level for the week does tend to waver but last night’s stellar shows (and the hilarious high-energy opening video for Holt Renfrew by film maker Justin Wu) really wet our appetite for a fun, inspiring week ahead!
