When We Met Tommy & Anna

When it was first announced earlier this month that The Room at The Bay was presenting a photo exhibit of Jak & Jil phenom Tommy Ton and his muse, Vogue Japans Anna Dello Russo, the Toronto blogosphere and twitter feeds went into overdrive. With the exhibit opening today (and of course a special one hour autograph session scheduled from 11am 12pm this morning), the folks at The Bay graciously invited a few bloggers for an intimate meet and greet with the dynamic duo yesterday. And lucky us, we were one of them! So what did we learn about fashions latest dream team?

1) Anna doesnt borrow clothes, she buys everything Sporting a deep V Erdem dress and a fluffy ball of vintage Wayne Clark feathers as a cover up (that Tommy sweetly wrapped Anna back up in when she made her way over to our posse), Anna explained that she doesnt borrow clothing but instead she buys all of her clothing because she views clothing like a collectors item. She doesnt want to give anything back so she collects it instead. We love her philosophy! Although interestingly enough, when asked if she had plans to shop while she was visiting Toronto, she definitely expressed some hesitation. We blame the cold weather.

2) Tommy does a great Italian accent Demonstrating how close the two really are, Tommy made sure to poke fun at Annas thick Italian accent by mimicking her a few times throughout our Q & A session. Oh and there were definitely a few eye rolls on Tommys end. Now thats what we call real friendship.

3) Anna looks to Carine Roitfeld and Lady Gaga for fashion inspiration When asked about fashion icons, Anna informed us that she considered both Carine Roitfeld and Lady Gaga to be fashion icons and that she thinks icons need to be living in order to warrant that title.

4) Tommys favorite picture of Anna? While Anna doesnt believe in favorite things (she prefers the unexpected), Tommy let us know that of all of his Anna shots, he prefers this one. Decked out in a gold and silver sequin Balmain minidress and hamming it up in front of angled mirrors, Tommy felt this image truly represented Anna. And even though we only met her for about 20 minutes, wed have to say wed agree.

5) Anna gets jealous What does Anna do when Tommy isnt taking enough pictures of her? She puts her hands in front of his lens to block him from shooting others. How cheeky!

6) When it comes to fashion, it is better to have doubt than be certain Annas advice for women getting dressed forget what other people think and just say why not?
