THAT’S ROCAWEAR? Change Clothes and Go!

For over a decade Hip Hop icon/entrepreneur Jay-Z has been making young people rethink what is hot in fashion. When the Brooklyn native released his hit song Change Clothes in 2003, guys across the country were trading their popular (and expensive) athletic jerseys for the button shirts they often reserved for church services or fancy dinners. Fast forward 8 years later, the mogul is still evolving his take on fashion with the introduction of his Thats Rocawear campaign. On Tuesday (June 28), TDO founder Aeshia De Vore Branch (pictured above) and TD Radio host Tia Shipman visited the brands pop-up shop at Openhouse Gallery in NYC to get the scoop.

After the two participated in viral testimonials, they nibbled on cupcakes, sipped beverages, and grazed the room with a Roc Stylist to learn about the NEW Rocawear. Celebrity DJ MOS spun tunes while an artist painted a picture, LITERALLY, of the events happenings.

After being outfitted with some classic blue cardigans, Aeshia and Tia (pictured above on far right) exited a room of the entertainments most respected tastemakers with the realization that Rocawear is truly shifting from a strictly urban, streetwear-focused brand towards a more modern and mainstream clothing line that appeals to a broad spectrum of young consumers. We are a great American brand. We dont envision ourselves as an urban brand or streetwear brand, explained Shawn Jay-Z Carter (co-founder and president of Rocawear). We wanted to show people how weve evolved and repositioned ourselves, without abandoning our original DNA. It looks like they are heading in the right direction!
